Balayage is a freehand hair coloring method that produces a natural, sun-kissed appearance with less noticeable regrowth lines. Traditional highlights are typically applied using foils, resulting in more uniform, structured streaks of lighter color throughout the hair. Balayage generally requires less maintenance and grows out more naturally than conventional highlights. The process of balayage can take between three and five hours, as reported by Byrdie.

While both treatments aim to smooth and straighten hair, they have distinct characteristics. A Brazilian blowout forms a protective coating around each hair strand, reducing frizz and enhancing shine without changing the hair's natural texture. This treatment typically lasts 10-12 weeks. In contrast, a keratin treatment penetrates the hair shaft to reconstruct and fortify the hair from within, resulting in straighter, smoother hair that can last up to six months. The choice between the two depends on the desired outcome and the hair type of the client.
